Paddling in Beautiful Orange Autumn

Paddling on Lake Canobolas

A sunny autumn day with no wind made for perfect paddling conditions in late April before our monthly meeting and coffee catch up. Discussions centred around upcoming events – Dunns Swamp, Nowra and maybe a visit to Parkes with talk also about fundraising and the Western Region Regatta.  Training remains at the 7.30am for 8am timeslot on Saturdays until a change in the weather moves us to a later Saturday spot or Sunday lunch time paddle.

Estella Paddles for Barbarians & Wins

Estella competed as a Barbarian in the Gateway Lakes Wodonga Cross Border Dragonboat Championship to be held 16 – 18 April.

The event differs from usual regattas. The World Cup style event being trialled involves a team competing in both Mixed 20s and Open and Women’s 10s crews across a range of distances – 100m, 200m, 500m and 1km

The Barbarians crew included members from the Canberra Ice Dragons Dragon Boat Club, the Navmat Dragon Boat Club, Diamond Phoenix, Outback Dragons & Colour City Dragons.

The Barbarians raced in the colours of their clubs which has also provided the Barbarians with the nickname of ‘The Liquorice Allsorts’.  The Barbarians motto – ‘the horde is greater than the sum of its parts’.
