It’s always fun to welcome friends to your own ‘patch’, more so when it’s inviting them to share a sport and a place you love. So it was with delight that we watched paddlers from across the state descend on Orange in mid-November for the Western Region Regatta on beautiful Lake Canobolas.
Orange has a reputation for changeable weather and a few of our regattas have proved ‘challenging’ for those from sunnier climes but 15 November dawned bright and mild with perfect conditions on the water – a relief after the winds and waves at the Bathurst Bicentenary Dragon Boat Challenge held a fortnight earlier (where the Colour City Convicts won ‘best dressed’).
We were really pleased with our times on the day, a testament to our coach Phil and a determination to ‘do better’. This attitude saw a core group from Colour City paddling through winter (true dedication on our icy Lake), and greater involvement in regattas.
Buoyed with enthusiasm on 29 November we combined with our friends from Forbes Dragon Boat Club to race in the Annual Wagga Wagga Dragon Boat Challenge. Working together we improved on previous race times and narrowly missed out on a place in the mixed sporting teams final.
